EJP Outreach Presents: The Euthanasia Symposium
The euthanasia debate has been reinvigorated following Lecretia Seales' highly prominent attempt to secure a declaration allowing physician-assisted suicide in New Zealand. Following a petition, Parliament's Health Select Committee will investigate public attitudes towards introducing legislation allowing the terminally ill and those suffering from irreversible conditions to seek their doctors' assistance in ending their lives. The Equal Justice Project is pleased to announce that this semester's symposium will feature discussion of the law and policy around allowing physician assisted suicide in New Zealand, with a number of distinguished speakers attending:
- Paul Rishworth QC (Crown Counsel in the Seales Case and NZBORA expert)
- Mary Panko (Voluntary Euthanasia Society)
- David Dickinson (Criminal Lawyer specialising in s 180 Crimes Act 1961 - Suicide Pacts)
From 6 pm on Wednesday 23 September, we invite you to join us in Library B10 for a discussion of this hotly contested topic, as we evaluate the arguments for and against allowing voluntary euthanasia in New Zealand.Event followed by drinks and nibbles. Attendance free. All welcome.
